Trigger Point Therapy in Ocala, FL

Customized Session with Anna Griffin, LMT

A trigger point is a small, hyperirritable knot inside a muscle that radiates pain to somewhere else in the body. A trigger point in the trapezius can send a headache up the side of the head. One in the gluteal muscles can send pain down the leg in a way that feels exactly like sciatica. They are often the explanation when the spot that hurts is not the spot that is actually causing the pain.

Trigger point therapy uses sustained, focused pressure on the trigger point itself. The point is held until it softens and the referred pain pattern eases. It is specific work, more like accupressure than a flowing massage, and it can produce striking relief when the right point is found and released.

How Anna identifies and works trigger points

The first step is mapping. Anna palpates carefully, often asking, “When I press here, where do you feel it?” The answer tells her whether she is on a true trigger point or a different kind of tension. Once a trigger point is identified, she applies steady pressure at a level you can breathe through, holding until the muscle responds.

Trigger point work is often combined with deep tissue and stretching in the same session: the trigger point releases, the surrounding muscle is worked through, and the area is taken through new range. That sequence is what makes the relief last beyond the day of the appointment.
